Art the Informs...

How can you NOT be captivated by the opening: "Sometimes art can change how people see the world. But Anna Coleman Ladd made art that changed how the world saw people"? As a person who is naturally inquisitive, has a passion for art, and loves to learn I was drawn to the NPR Story One Sculptor's Answer to WWI Wounds: Plaster, Copper and Paint. The article is fascinating as well as the NPR Broadcast. Take a moment to read and listen!

After reading, think about how we have seen the FACE represented in art. Consider the face in painting and sculpture through the course of the year. The eyes are the window to the soul. Our face non-verbally communicates to others. Consider IDEAL vs REAL. Consider how the artist's representation is a product of the person that is PAYING the bill for the work. In an era where artists work and HOPE to sell their work, we see more real than ideal. Modern artists, post-Industrial Revolution artists, felt more comfortable expressing what they saw without retributions.

I don't know about you, but I prefer to see what is real so that I can make a judgment based on facts not distortions.

New Discovery in GREECE ... the PAST is part of our global PRESENT

An article was published this week, "Greeks captivated by Alexander-era tomb at Amphipolis". Take a moment to read the BBC article detailing the excavations of the TOMB. The question remains, whose ornate and luxurious tomb is it?

The article is interesting as it not only details the excavation but the ECONOMIC impact of the discovery on the community.
