Note:
What traits do they share?
Patronage?
Original Location?
Artists...male or female? Does gender matter when painting portraits?

Birth of Venus...Background

Botticelli's Birth of Venus is said to be based off a poem of the same title by Poliziano. Read the poem to discover for yourself the link that exists between the two. Botticelli is unique for the era, painting mythological subjects rather than Biblical scenes or portraits.
