From Art History to Art Making

Saturday October 16th 1-4 PM ($10.00 after Museum Admission)
Dr. James Grebl will discuss the exhibition Toulouse-Lautrec's Paris. Learn about both the artist and Baldwin M. Baldwin, who donated most of the works in the exhibition to the museum. After the talk, a museum educator will lead a PRINTMAKING WORKSHOP based on the ideas of Lautrec's own work.
It is recommended that tickets be purchased ahead of time at the museum or through www.ticketmaster.com

Teen Art Cafe (Just for Teens)
Wednesday December 15th 6-8 PM
Free, pre-registration is NOT required
Teens are invited to the museum to celebrate the special exhibition of Dreams and Diversions: 250 Years of Japanese Woodblock Prints. Meet and mingle with other teens. Cafe activities include several printmaking projects inspired by the art on view. Students will view exhibition related performance and/or a presentation about the development of the exhibition. Conversations with a Curator

Join curator Sonya Quintanilla for an exclusive tour of three new galleries in Temple, Palace, Mosque: Southern Asian and Persian Art
Saturday January 22nd @ 3 PM
Be the first to hear the curator (Quintanilla) discuss the second rotation of paintings in the palace gallery (see Oct. 30th talk).

Special Event: Diwali Festival: The Indian Festival of Light

(Put on by both the San Diego Museum of Art and Mingei Museum)
Cost $10.00 individual, $15.00 family
Cultural performances, galleries open late for viewing Indian works, events held throughout the park to celebrate Diwali.

"Velazquez in the Basement"
Dr. Marciari will address the case for reattribution of a work of art in a tale of discovery, detective work, and commentary on the art world's reluctance to admit new works into the canon.
Monday November 15th 7-9 PM
$7.00 students (Free for woodblock workshop attendees)
Woodblock carvers will demonstrate how a woodblock is designed, carved and printed.
Wednesday December 8 7 PM
$7.00 students
Artist and author Judy Chicago will be discussing her new book, Frida Kahlo: Face to Face.
