Essay Questions to prepare...

Wednesday's test covers 21-22-23 (emphasis on 22 and 23)

You will have multiple choice questions (about 20) as well as short answer/essay (1 or 2). Your short answer/essay will be taken from these topics:

1. Compare different LAST SUPPERS. Discuss patron, original location, emphasis, viewer's inclusion, etc.

2. Compare the pose and proportions of Adam and Eve in the representations by Van Eyck (fig 20-6), Massaccio (21-11) and Durer (23-6). How do these figures relate to classical proportions and contrapposto? (HINT...you need to find these images in your book...this is wkbk question #3 page 69).

3. How does The Four Apostles by Durer reflect protestant beliefs?

4. What are key characteristics of MANNERISM? Be able to identify Mannerist "qualities" in an unknown artwork.

5. Compare Bronzino's Venus, Cupid, Folly and Time with Giorgione's Pastoral Symphony. Note the poses of the figures, the settings and the compositions. What do you think were the major concerns of each artist? How do these works reflect the different styles preferred by artists of Venice and those of Florence?

6. Trace the development of the David...Donatello and Michelangelo...and compare/contrast with the Doryphoros.

7. (WKBK page 56 #10) In what ways are the styles of the Early Renaissance in Florence, the High Renaissance in Rome, Mannerism in Florence and the Late Renaissance in Venice typified in the portraits by Botticelli (21-28), Raphael (22-21) Bronzino (22-45) and Titian (22-39).

8. GMC...we studied Giotto and Masaccio ... trace their influence in other artists...(Caravaggio is coming soon)
